Welcome

The King’s Award for Enterprise is a globally recognised badge of excellence, awarded annually to UK-based enterprises who have demonstrated outstanding achievement. Herefordshire has a wealth of exciting and innovative businesses and there is no better way for them to receive national and indeed global recognition, than by being awarded a coveted King’s Award for Enterprise.

Our Lord Lieutenant, Edward Harley OBE, is the champion of KAE in our county, supported by the Herefordshire KAE panel and key local business organisations: Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, Herefordshire Business Board, Hereford & Worcester Chamber of Commerce, Herefordshire Federation of Small Businesses. Together we promote and encourage applications from the very varied sectors of our business community for the next round of awards which close in early September 2023.

Award Eligibility

KAEs are not just for large and multi-national companies; businesses and organisations of all sizes and from all sectors may apply. Your organisation can be a business or a non-profit. Whatever the type of organisation, to apply it needs to:

  • Be based in the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)
  • File its Company Tax returns with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
  • Be a self-contained enterprise that markets its own products or services and is under its own management
  • Has at least 2 full-time UK employees or part-time equivalents
  • Demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility

How to Enter?

To obtain more information on how to enter, visit the King’s Award for Enterprise website where you will find the entry criteria (which may alter slightly each year).

It is important to read fully the entry requirements for each category and provide as much information as possible as to why your organisation should be considered. You can enter more than one category, but each entry will have to be submitted through each relevant category application form online.

  • As you would expect, this entry process does take time and will require you to upload considerable amounts of information about your organisation.
  • The King’s Award for Enterprise judging team want to hear YOUR story, read about your organisation, and feel the passion you have for the achievements your staff, products and services.
  • There are organisations that will, for a fee, write KAE applications. The advice from the KAE team in London is that it is not necessary to outsource the submission of an award application; the team want to hear personally from the business about what it has achieved and why it is so special.
  • Applications for the King’s Awards for Enterprise 2024 open in early May 2023
  • The closing date this year for entries is in early September 2023.
  • The winners of the King’s Award for Enterprise are announced each April.

Need some help with your application?

This where our Lord-Lieutenant’s King’s Awards Panel comes in. Made up of Deputy Lieutenants and advisors, the role of the panel is to inform, promote and support applications from Herefordshire based companies. We all want recognition for the very best Herefordshire organisations. We cannot write your application, but we can help find answers to questions, be a sounding board and provide support for you along the application process.

If you would like to get in touch, please fill in the form contact form below you or contact Tricia Thomas DL, chair of KAE Herefordshire
